Comprehensive Neuropsychological Evaluation

A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation typically includes the following: 1) a review of medical and educational records, 2) clinical interview, 3) neuropsychological testing (e.g. attention, memory, executive functions, general intellectual functioning, language, motor, academic achievement and personality), 4) written report, 5) feedback session with the client and 6) consultation with parents, school personnel and physicians as appropriate.

Abbreviated Neuropsychological Evaluation

An abbreviated neuropsychological evaluation includes all of the components of the comprehensive evaluation described above, however the testing may not need to be as extensive. For example, it may not be necessary to assess all of the areas of functioning (e.g. general intellectual functioning, language) or to assess a given area as thoroughly.

Telehealth/Telepsychology

Telehealth or Telepsychology refers to providing psychological evaluation or psychotherapy services remotely using telecommunications technologies, such as video conferencing or telephone. Dr. Ernst uses doxy.me, which is a secure and HIPPA compliant technology. Dr. Ernst will email a link  to access his doxy.me website. Once the link is clicked, you can access the site using your laptop/computer or phone. In addition to videoconferencing, documents and information currently on the laptop screen can be shared securely. This service may be appropriate for evaluations that can be completed through a record review, clinical interview and the completion of questionnaires. In addition, this service may be appropriate for screening evaluations that may include a recommendation for follow-up testing in the office. Finally, some evaluations may be completed using a combination of telepsychology and in-office testing/consultation. Dr. Ernst will discuss how telepsychology may be used and if it is an appropriate option for you.

Psychological Counseling & Executive Skills Interventions for ADHD

Children and adults with ADHD typically experience a range of problems including inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, as well as difficulties with executive functions (e.g., planning, organization, time management, initiating tasks, and task monitoring). These problems often cause significant difficulties with academic, occupational, and social functioning. Moreover, emotional functioning and self-esteem can be impacted. Psychological counseling and executive skills interventions may help address these difficulties and improve functioning.  Sessions are structured and goal oriented and parents are typically involved in the process for child and adolescent clients.
